"Smarter Technology for All"
HKEX-listed PC and IT group whose Lenovo Research Shanghai team builds the Daystar Bot GS six-legged inspection robot and lighter IS models.
Lenovo Group Limited is a Chinese multinational computer and IT infrastructure company, founded in Beijing in 1984 and listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (stock code 0992). Its corporate site cites about 77,000 employees and annual revenue of USD 69 billion, and the group ranks 196th in the Fortune Global 500. Most of its business is PCs, smartphones, servers, storage and IT services. Robotics is a small activity inside the group, run under the Daystar (Chenxing) brand.
Daystar robots. Lenovo's Daystar robot work is led by Lenovo Research's Shanghai branch. Mao Shijie, a Lenovo vice president, heads that branch and its Intelligent Devices and Solutions Lab, and he presented the current legged robots on 18 April 2024 at a sub-forum of Lenovo's 2024 Tech World innovation conference in Shanghai. Media reports say Lenovo has built Daystar robots since 2020; the first was the Daystar X1, and a four-legged Daystar Q1 was shown earlier. Lenovo calls the six-legged Daystar Bot GS its first self-developed legged robot. The GS won a 2024 iF Design Award and a 2024 Red Dot product design award, where the in-house design team is credited and the robot is described as an exploration robot for inspecting industrial facilities.
The Daystar developer documentation publishes specifications for three six-legged models:
The GS and IS support autonomous positioning, navigation planning, map building, obstacle stopping and return to a charging dock. The GS accepts expansion payloads such as a dual-light pan-tilt camera, a robotic arm, gas sensors and an edge-computing host. Lenovo targets the robots at equipment inspection in power stations and factory production lines, field surveys, emergency response and rescue. It markets them mainly to enterprises and governments in Asia, and it has also shown the GS at partner events in Taiwan. Lenovo has not published prices or named robot customers.
Group context. The Lenovo organisation spans client devices, infrastructure solutions and services. Its robotics output so far is the Daystar inspection line plus Lenovo Research prototypes. Buyers should treat Daystar as a product line of a large IT group rather than a dedicated robotics company.
Primary type & automation activities this supplier delivers:
Six-legged IP66 inspection robot from Lenovo Research with lidar, HD camera and payload bays for PTZ camera, robotic arm or gas sensor; autonomous mapping and docking.
Lighter, lower-cost six-legged version of the GS for patrol inspection without manipulation, with autonomous navigation and auto-docking.
Entry six-legged model with remote control and safety functions but no autonomous navigation or mapping; supports an edge computing host.
