Family-run French maker of nut and plum harvesters in Cancon whose RoboCut 360 robot uses lidar and cameras to mow and sucker orchards autonomously.
Léger SAS is an agricultural machinery manufacturer based in the Jean Lagnel craft zone in Cancon, Lot-et-Garonne, in south-west France. It was created in 1981 by Bernard Léger, who began by building machines for his own farm and neighbouring growers in a small workshop, and several members of the founding family remain involved. The company specialises in equipment for plum, hazelnut and other nut orchards and for vineyards, and has its own engineering office and workshop; the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region supports some of its innovation projects. The workshop also produces small series of parts for the agri-food, mechanical and agricultural industries, subcontracts for regional factories and repairs hydraulic cylinders.
Its catalogue covers nut harvesting and processing (a nut harvester, a nut sweeper and blower, the EcoCut360 cutting head and nut processing plants), stone fruit (the Octopus orchard platform and a non-stop plum harvester kit), a GPS transplanter for vines and the Beagle high-clearance tractor.
Its robotics product is RoboCut 360, an autonomous orchard robot designed for year-round, unattended use. It combines hydraulic power for the tools with electric drive and steering motors, fed by a thermal engine and a large fuel tank for long run times. RoboCut 360 locates trees with lidar and cameras, positions itself at the start and end of each row, stops when the plot is finished and supports several travel patterns, including spiral and row-by-row. Interchangeable tools let it mow the alley and between trees with a satellite mower, cut suckers with the EcoCut360 head, shred prunings with a mulcher and treat tree bases with a sprayer.
