Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) is South Korea's primary aerospace manufacturer, formed in 1999 through the consolidation of aerospace divisions from Daewoo Heavy Industries, Hyundai Space and Aircraft Company, and Samsung Aerospace. The company designs, develops, and manufactures fixed-wing aircraft, rotorcraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles for military and civil customers, while also producing aerostructures for Boeing and Airbus. Flagship programs include the KF-21 Boramae 4.5-generation multirole fighter, T-50 Golden Eagle advanced trainer and FA-50 light combat variant, and KUH-1 Surion utility helicopter.
KAI is developing reconnaissance and medium-altitude long-endurance UAVs and participates in South Korea's domestic defense industrial programs as the national prime aerospace contractor.
