Wälischmiller Engineering GmbH traces to 1946, when Hans Wälischmiller founded the business in Meersburg, Germany, initially producing dental equipment before moving into radioactive-material handling systems in 1950. The company relocated to its present headquarters in Markdorf in 1962, and Carr's Milling Industries plc of Carlisle, United Kingdom acquired the business in 2010, when it employed about 125 people and took its current name.
The company designs and manufactures remote-handling manipulators for environments too hazardous for direct human access. Product lines include the A100 and A150 telescopic master-slave manipulators, the A200 articulated manipulator, the A1000 and A1000S power manipulators, the V1000 mobile robotic platform, and the TELBOT remote-controlled robotic system, with matching operator control interfaces. Systems use radiation- and corrosion-resistant materials and, for oil and gas customers, carry ATEX certification for Zone 0 explosive atmospheres; the company has held ISO 9001 certification since 1995.
Its manipulators have been installed at nuclear sites including Sellafield, Rokkasho and the Chernobyl facility, and its customers extend to oil and gas operators such as Shell. It serves the nuclear industry across research, power generation, decommissioning and waste handling, plus oil, gas and chemical-plant applications.
