Headwall (Headwall Photonics) is a US-based designer and manufacturer of high-performance hyperspectral imaging sensors, spectral instruments, and machine vision solutions, headquartered in Bolton, Massachusetts. Founded in 2003 following an operational divestiture from the holographic gratings division of Agilent Technologies, the company built on a foundation of diffractive optics expertise to become a leading supplier of spectral acquisition instruments and exploitation software. Headwall's sensors capture detailed spectral information across hundreds of contiguous wavelength bands, enabling materials identification, classification, and inspection beyond the reach of conventional color or monochrome cameras.

Its product portfolio spans VNIR, NIR, SWIR, and broader spectral ranges for applications including airborne and UAV remote sensing, defense and intelligence, precision agriculture, environmental monitoring, food processing and safety, pharmaceuticals, and recycling and material sorting. The flagship Nano-Hyperspec is a fully integrated VNIR sensor (400 to 1000 nm) optimized for small unmanned aircraft, offering 640 spatial bands and 270 spectral bands at 2 to 3 nm resolution, onboard data processing and storage, frame rates exceeding 300 frames per second, and a package weighing approximately 0.6 kg. Headwall also offers the MV.X embedded-processing platform for industrial machine vision and provides turnkey integrated systems combining hyperspectral sensors with leading UAV platforms. Through acquisitions including inno-spec GmbH, Headwall has expanded its global manufacturing footprint and now operates as part of Headwall Group, serving customers worldwide with optical components, sensors, software, and complete imaging systems.
