Fremantle-based maritime autonomy software firm: GAMA autonomy, Lookout+ optical radar, MarOps and MIS-SIM, proven on a RAN Armidale-class patrol boat.
Greenroom Robotics is an Australian software company that develops autonomy and AI for boats and ships. It does not build vessels. Its software is fitted to new builds and to existing crewed vessels, so they can run with an enhanced crew, under remote control or fully autonomously. The company was founded in 2017 by three engineers who met while studying naval architecture and ocean engineering at the Australian Maritime College in Launceston, Tasmania. Co-founder Harry Hubbert is Chief Operating Officer. Greenroom describes itself as Australian owned and veteran operated. Its team includes naval architects, engineers, seafarers and former Royal Australian Navy officers.
Greenroom is headquartered in Western Australia. The Defence West industry directory lists its office at Level 1, 86 High Street, Fremantle. A November 2025 joint release with Austal said the company had 32 employees and offices in Perth, Sydney and Houston, and that it had grown without external investment. Breaking Defense put headcount at about 35 later that month and reported growth plans to 60-70 staff.
Greenroom sells four products that can be used alone or together:
A GAMA feature called Dynamic Predictive Control (DP-C) lets ordinary workboats hold station and follow ROVs or AUVs with near-DP precision. It was deployed with a Sonardyne Mini-Ranger 2 USBL on the 34 m workboat Tenggara Explorer. In 2026 DP-C won the Craig Black Award for Innovation and Technology at the Australian Subsea Business Awards.
In defence, Greenroom software ran the Royal Australian Navy's Patrol Boat Autonomy Trial, carried out with Austal and Trusted Autonomous Systems on a retrofitted 57 m Armidale-class patrol boat. Austal reports that the integrated system made 148 autonomous collision-avoidance manoeuvres over a 705-nautical-mile trial. Austal and Greenroom signed a strategic partnership in September 2024. In November 2025 they announced that future Austal vessels can carry GAMA and Lookout+ integrated with Austal's MARINELINK Prime platform management system, with conversions taking as little as five days. Greenroom software is also being integrated into SubSea Craft's MARS uncrewed surface vessel. At Sea-Air-Space 2026 the company pitched its autonomy stack for the US Navy's Medium USV requirements. Greenroom says its AUKUS ITAR exemption has made defence work with the US and UK easier.
In survey, GAMA runs EGS Australia's optionally crewed survey vessels Fremantle 01 and Fremantle 02, which do Royal Australian Navy HydroScheme Industry Partnership Program work. Greenroom reports that Fremantle 01 used 94% less diesel than conventional crewed survey and cost up to 75% less to operate over a 42-day offshore mission. In 2023 Greenroom wrote the software for AMC Search's "Whiskers" AUV payload and control module, a project funded by the Defence Innovation Hub.
Greenroom also offers operations, consulting and engineering services, including running autonomy trials and advising on regulation. It won the Rio Tinto Growth Innovation category at the 2025 WA Innovators of the Year awards. The company displays ISO 9001:2015 certification and is an entry-level member of Australia's Defence Industry Security Program.
