Ganymed Robotics is a Paris-based medtech startup developing a marker-less, co-manipulated robotic assistant for total knee arthroplasty.
Ganymed Robotics SAS is a French medical technology company founded in 2018 and registered in Paris (35 boulevard de Sebastopol, 75001). It develops AI and robotics technologies for orthopaedic surgery, starting with total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Its platform is described as a "robot-with-eyes": a custom co-manipulated robotic arm combined with multimodal sensors and computer vision that works without the bone-fixed markers used by many existing orthopaedic navigation systems. The company states that the platform is patented and designed to extend to other orthopaedic procedures, with goals of improving patient outcomes, surgeon experience and the efficiency of joint replacement procedures, including reducing variability in operating time. Ganymed has announced a breakthrough in marker-less robotic technology for knee replacement; its website states that the device is under development, has not been cleared or approved by the FDA or any other regulator and is not available for sale.
Ganymed was co-founded by Sophie Cahen, who served as CEO and is the company's legal president; Frederic Banegas, a co-founder, is COO and interim CEO. The board is chaired by Michel Therin and includes Bruno Maisonnier (CEO of AnotherBrain) as well as representatives of Cathay Health, Kurma Partners and Credit Mutuel Innovation, with BNP Paribas Developpement as observer.
The company closed a Series B round totalling EUR 36 million in January 2023, after an initial EUR 21 million close, to complete development of its TKA robotic assistant, prepare regulatory and market access work and diversify its pipeline. Investors named on its website include Cathay Health, Kurma Partners, Credit Mutuel Innovation, BNP Paribas Developpement, Caphorn and the European Innovation Council. Support partners include Bpifrance, French Tech 2030, EIT Health, Wilco, Agoranov, Paris Biotech Sante and Snitem.
