Franka Robotics GmbH is a German research-driven robotics company founded in 2016 and headquartered in Munich (Koppstraße 12, 81379). In 2023 the company was acquired by Agile Robots SE, a Munich-based robotics group, and operates globally as its research robotics brand. The company was formerly known as Franka Emika GmbH before rebranding to Franka Robotics.
The company's flagship product is the Franka Research 3 (FR3), a 7-axis force-sensitive collaborative robot arm designed specifically for robotics and AI research. The FR3 features a maximum payload of 3 kg, a maximum reach of 860 mm, and provides low-level access to the robot's torque sensors and control interfaces, making it suitable for learning-based manipulation, physical AI training, imitation learning, and teleoperation experiments. The robot is ROS-compatible and has an active open-source community at franka-community.de.
