Kitchener, Ontario startup founded in 2024 by apple growers and roboticists, building rover-mounted robotic arms that thin apple fruitlets.
Finite Farms Inc., operating as Finite Robotics, is an orchard robotics company in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, building robots for commercial apple growers. It starts with robotic fruit thinning, which it sees as the first step in bringing robots into orchards, with the aim of improving grower economics and packout through farm-grade, self-sufficient machines.
The company grew out of an apple orchard. Co-founders Amanda and Matt Stevens planted a hobby orchard in 2020 and later bought a commercial apple orchard. Matt Stevens previously co-founded and led FleetCarma, later acquired by Geotab, where he went on to lead product management and global sustainability; he holds a PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Waterloo. Co-founder Mike Giannikouris leads robotics, with more than a decade in software and systems for rovers, drones and IoT, including roles as senior director of engineering at Avidrone and head of engineering at a Siemens subsidiary. Amanda Stevens is a serial business operator and registered physiotherapist.
Finite was founded in 2024, when it developed a fruitlet vision system, scaled robotic-arm operation, tested a thinning end-effector and set up a lab. In 2025 it deployed a full-size rover prototype in its own test orchard and continued development at a larger commercial orchard, and it reported building a small fleet of thinning robots for the 2026 season, customising robotic arms and end-effectors for the task.
