F. Poulsen Engineering ApS is a Danish agricultural engineering company based in Hvalso, west of Copenhagen, that markets its products under the VISIONWEEDING brand. The company describes itself as developing and manufacturing robots for organic and conventional farming that control weeds without herbicides, and states it has been building advanced agricultural machines for more than twenty years.
Its main product is the Robovator, a vision-based hoeing machine for controlling weeds in row crops. In the Mechanical Robovator, each row has its own camera; software recognizes the crop plants and a hydraulically operated mechanical tool moves in and out around each plant to cut weeds inside the row. Published specifications include row spacing adjustable from 25 to 75 cm, a working speed of 2 to 8 km/h, a power draw of about 1 hp per row taken from the tractor PTO, and a machine weight of 700 kg. The software is designed for transplanted vegetables, and machines work in lettuce, onions, chives and hemp, with configurations ranging from 5 rows to a 31-row lettuce machine in Germany. The company also offers a thermal variant of the intra-row system that uses propane flames instead of knives, used in sugar beet, along with functions for crop thinning in rows. A separate camera-based steering kit converts a standard cultivator or other implement into one that automatically follows a crop row or furrow. Its camera software recognizes specific plant types while ignoring weeds, has a built-in spotlight for use in strong or weak daylight and at night, and operates at 2 to 10 km/h on plants at least 10 mm tall and up to 50 cm. The autopilot fits tractors with fixed or load-sensing hydraulic pumps, supports software updates over the internet, and can optionally count plants and signal intra-row weeding. The company also supplies electronic steering for bogie wheels.
