Company Overview

EYESEE is a French provider of drone-based inventory systems for warehouses with pallet racking. The offer is operated by Darwin Drones S.A.S., headquartered at 12 Rue Ampere in Grenoble. The concept dates to 2015, when Stephane Cadenet, then WMS project director at the Grenoble software group Hardis Group, proposed using drones to count warehouse stock. Research and development started in 2016 together with the drone maker Squadrone System, and a patent was filed with INPI the same year. A beta programme with more than 20 logistics companies ran in 2018, with participants including L'Oreal Cosmetique Active, Log's, Volvo Trucks and DHL. In 2021 the system received CE certification and moved to industrial production together with the launch of the EYESEE Cloud platform. In 2022 a dedicated company, Darwin Drones S.A.S., was created to carry the international development of EYESEE. The company is led by CEO Eric Pierrel and raised EUR 1 million in seed funding from Team Invest Innovation (the investment arm of Groupe Idec), Credit Agricole Alpes Developpement and business angels.

The product line has three parts. EYESEE Air uses off-the-shelf consumer drones that are cheap and easy to replace, driven by the EYESEE App on a tablet and the EYESEE Cloud back office. The drone flies along racking aisles, reads 1D and 2D barcodes and performs character recognition, and streams live video and photo evidence for each location. The company states an average of about 400 locations scanned per hour per drone, a 100% read rate on GS1 codes, use in racking up to 20 m high, and inventory up to ten times faster than manual counting. Deployment, including warehouse mapping and operator training, takes one to two days and needs no fixed infrastructure; no pilot licence is required. EYESEE Legacy is a custom-drone version for on-site inventory, and Warehouse Inventory Services is an outsourced counting service. EYESEE Cloud imports and exports WMS/ERP data, builds a digitised map of the site, schedules missions and produces PDF, CSV and Excel reports. Pricing tiers run from XS to XL for sites of roughly 1,000 to more than 100,000 pallet locations.

Named customers include Bayer, GKN Automotive, L'Oreal, Le Roy Logistique, Nature & Decouvertes and Deret Logistique, and the company says the system equips hundreds of customers. EYESEE received innovation awards at CES Las Vegas and CES Asia in 2018 and at SITL in 2015, as well as the Trophees de l'Excellence Euralogistic (2018) and an innovation trophy from CCI France Netherlands (2016).
