Swiss agtech company making the ARA, an AI-powered ultra-high precision field sprayer that cuts crop protection chemical use by up to 95%.
Ecorobotix SA is a Swiss agricultural technology company founded in 2011 by Aurélien Demaurex and Steve Tanner in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland. The company develops precision spraying machines that apply crop protection products only where needed, using computer vision and machine learning to distinguish weeds from crop plants at the individual plant level.
The company's flagship product is the ARA, an ultra-high precision (UHP) field sprayer. The current commercial model, the ARA 620, features a spraying width of 6.20 meters (approximately 20 feet) across three modules, with 156 high-precision spray nozzles. The ARA achieves a treatment footprint of just 6 x 6 centimeters per application point, enabled by Plant-by-Plant AI technology developed in-house. At an operating speed of 7.2 km/h, the ARA can cover between 2.8 and 3.2 hectares per hour and operates around the clock regardless of light conditions. The system can detect weeds as small as 4 x 4 mm and supports more than 25 crop algorithms with recognition of over 40 weed species.
Compared to conventional broadcast spraying, Ecorobotix claims the ARA reduces plant protection product (PPP) consumption by up to 95% in target applications. As of its most recent public milestone, the company had sold more than 1,000 ARA units in over 20 countries. The ARA is positioned as a purchase product, with pricing reported at approximately $300,000 USD per unit.
In 2024, Dominique Mégret became CEO. The company employs more than 300 people globally and holds B Corporation certification. In 2025, Ecorobotix announced a $50 million investment to expand U.S. operations, targeting North American vegetable and specialty crop growers.
Ecorobotix is headquartered in Yverdon-les-Bains, Canton of Vaud, Switzerland, and has received investment from Verve Ventures and other European agtech funds. The company is one of the most-cited examples in the precision agriculture sector for AI-guided spot treatment of weeds.
