"Rugged. Repairable. Within reach."
Wilmington, Delaware maker, founded 2019, of rugged, user-repairable low-cost UGVs for EOD, demining and research, including the R-BOT and CBR-1.
CushyBots, operated by Cushybots Corporation and marketed under the CushyBots Industrial brand at cbirobotics.com (CBI Robotics), designs and builds rugged, user-repairable, low-cost unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). Its stated focus is robots for life-saving missions: explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), humanitarian demining, law enforcement, military users with limited budgets, and academic research. The company describes itself as founded by a bomb disposal expert, a demining engineer and a mechatronics professor
The current product line has two platforms. R-BOT is a tactical UGV for remote inspection and manipulation. It was manufactured through a partnership between Inert Products (sold as IP Equip) and Cushybots Corporation. Inert Products lists R-BOT at about 35 in long, 25 in wide and 24 in high when closed (extending to 51 in), about 143 lb (two-person portable), a 44 lb lift capacity, more than 100 lb drag capacity, a 6 in gripper span with 360-degree continuous wrist rotation, four onboard cameras, and TCP/IP wireless control up to about 400 m using an Xbox-style controller. CushyBots states that 27 R-BOT units are deployed in active operations.
CBR-1 is a research UGV derived from the R-BOT EOD platform and offered as a civilian, non-militarized system for academic robotics research and education. The CBR-1 basic package is listed at USD 12,000 on the company store. The company reports that CBR-1 software is migrating from ROS 1 to ROS 2, and it runs a CBR-1 Grant program for research groups.
The company has manufacturing operations in Cambodia, where it says it trains local engineers. Cushybots Corporation is a US robotics startup based in Wilmington, Delaware, and was founded in 2019. Allen Dodgson Tan is co-founder and CEO.
Before the UGV business, Cushybots developed the Cushybot One, a child-oriented telepresence robot that launched on Indiegogo in August 2019 from USD 765. Specs included a quad-core 1.2 GHz Arm Cortex-A53 processor running Android 8.1, an 8 MP camera with a 160-degree field of view, 12 laser sensors, a top speed of 1.2 mph, a weight of about 5 kg and a 42 Wh battery. Founder Allen Tan said the product came from his own experience of parenting a child living on another continent.
CushyBots exhibited CBR-1 as an Innovation Stage startup at ICRA 2026 in Vienna. It also exhibited at IROS 2026.
