CLIIN Robotics

CLIIN Robotics is a Danish company founded in 2014 by Bo Moller Hansen, Thomas Jorgensen, Michael Iversen, and Nikolaj Kloster, headquartered in Soeborg (Copenhagen area), Denmark. The company develops remotely operated, magnetically adhering robotic systems specifically engineered to replace manual and chemical-intensive cleaning processes in the global shipping industry.

CLIIN's flagship product, the Cargo Hold Robot (CHR), replaces a conventional four-step cleaning process involving large volumes of chemicals and water with a single-step pure freshwater process. The CHR uses a high-pressure system operating at 200 bar with a flow rate of 50 liters per minute, producing a maximum impact effect of 18 kW. An inline heater can raise water temperature to 90°C, improving removal of greasy residues. The robot cuts cargo hold cleaning time by 50%, reduces required staff to 1–3 operators per robot, and reaches up to 90% of hold surface area. It generates only 40–70 metric tons of cleaning water versus more than 200 metric tons with conventional methods.

The Tank Cleaning Robot (TCR) is purpose-built for product tanks, also using pure heated freshwater and magnetic tracks to navigate all tank surfaces remotely, completing in days what would otherwise take weeks.

CLIIN also offers a Magnetic Universal Crawler (MUC) — a compact, suitcase-sized robotic platform suitable for inspection and access in challenging structures — and a Robotic Antifouling System for hull grooming and cleaning both above and below the waterline in strong currents.

The company's robots reduce chemical consumption by 80–100% compared to conventional cleaning methods, directly supporting environmental compliance for shipowners. CLIIN has successfully deployed its cargo hold cleaning technology with four major global dry bulk operators: Lauritzen, Norden, Oldendorff, and Ultrabulk. The company employs approximately 25 people and has a presence in major global shipping hubs.
