AI-powered autonomous livestock monitoring platform for dairy herd health management
CattleEye is a Belfast, Northern Ireland-based agricultural AI company founded in 2019 by Terry Canning and Adam Askew. It developed the world's first hardware-independent autonomous livestock monitoring platform using video analytics and deep learning. A camera mounted above dairy cow walkways identifies each animal by its unique coat markings and assesses gait by tracking approximately 16 anatomical landmarks, automatically detecting lameness and poor body condition — two of the costliest issues in dairy farming.
The system monitors cattle daily without requiring manual scoring. By 2024, CattleEye's platform was deployed across over 140 farms in 23 countries, monitoring over 200,000 cattle. In 2024, CattleEye was acquired by GEA Farm Technologies, integrating its AI capabilities into GEA's Next Generation Farming strategy for the global dairy sector.
