Company Overview

Bulwark Dynamics is a US defense technology company developing autonomous landing craft for military logistics in contested coastal areas. It was founded in the United States in 2025, is headquartered in Menlo Park, California, and also operates in Tokyo, Japan. Nhat Lieu is founder and chief executive; Yuta Shiina is co-founder and chief technical officer and Isaac Anderson co-founder and lead engineer.

Its product line is CARAVEL, an unmanned landing resupply vessel designed to carry cargo from ships or staging areas onto unimproved beaches without a pier, port infrastructure or shore crew. The company states a payload of 23,000 lb, a range of 1,100 nautical miles and a hybrid propulsion system for multi-day missions. CARAVEL is designed to navigate autonomously in GPS-denied conditions using sensor fusion and AI-based obstacle avoidance, to beach itself, offload and reload cargo autonomously, and to retract back to sea. Cargo bays accept JMIC and ISO containers so standard military loads need no repackaging.

The family is being built in three sizes that share major components. A 15-foot Caravel 15 prototype completed the full mission sequence in early 2026, covering unmanned transit, beaching, cargo offload and retraction with no human intervention. Larger 35-foot and 55-foot variants, sized for one and two twenty-foot equivalent unit containers, are in development. Bulwark opened a prototype production facility in Menlo Park in January 2026.

The company positions CARAVEL as a lower-cost complement to crewed connectors such as the LCU-1700 and LCAC for sustaining dispersed forces in the Indo-Pacific, including Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations, and lists disaster response, offshore energy, island supply chains and coastal transport as civil uses. It describes its aim as a vertically integrated autonomous maritime logistics company with production in the United States and Japan, targeting hundreds of vessels per year.

Bulwark closed a pre-seed round in September 2025 (amount not disclosed) and announced a USD 6.8 million seed round on 9 September 2026 from SBI US Gateway Fund, Archetype Ventures, Nene Ventures and Onomichi Dockyard. Alongside the round it signed a memorandum of understanding with Onomichi Dockyard, a Kobe-based shipbuilder founded in 1943 whose group includes Saiki Heavy Industries and delivers about 350,000 gross tons a year, to build Caravel vessels in Japan at an existing shipyard and to study a dedicated site for serial production of unmanned vessels. No military customer contract is named on the company's website.
