Indoor vertical farming company using AI and robotics automation — ceased operations 2024
Bowery Farming was a New York-based vertical farming company founded in 2015 by Irving Fain, David Golden, and Brian Falther. The company operated large-scale indoor farms in New Jersey, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, using its proprietary BoweryOS automation platform, AI-driven crop management, and robotics for planting and harvesting. In 2022, Bowery acquired Traptic, a robotics startup specializing in 3D vision-guided harvest automation.
Despite raising over $700 million in venture capital and reaching a $2.3 billion valuation, the company faced mounting energy costs, a plant pathogen outbreak, and difficulty achieving profitability. Bowery Farming ceased all operations in November 2024.
