German university research group at Bielefeld University, active since 1990, focusing on neural networks, cognitive robotics and dextrous manipulation.
The Neuroinformatics Group at Bielefeld University, Faculty of Technology, was established in 1990 under Prof. Dr. Helge Ritter and conducts research at the intersection of neural computation, machine learning, and robotics. Located in Bielefeld, Germany, the group applies methods from neural networks, dynamical systems, and evolutionary computation to robotic challenges including bimanual manipulation, dextrous grasping with multifingered hands, tactile sensing, and brain-computer interfaces. Robotics is the primary test bed for algorithms developed by the group, with a focus on manual intelligence and its replication in robot hands.
The Robotics subgroup, led by Robert Haschke, works on cognitive bimanual setups for interactive learning. In 2007, the group co-founded the Research Institute for Cognition and Robotics (CoR-Lab) at Bielefeld University together with the Applied Computer Science and other groups.
