When a German robotics innovator joins forces with a Chinese manufacturing powerhouse, the result is more than a partnership — it’s a statement about where the next era of industrial intelligence is headed.

HZF, a long-time leader in automotive bearing systems, has announced a strategic cooperation framework with Neura Robotics’ Chinese subsidiary, Neunai Robotics (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd.. The deal marks a rare cross-border collaboration between one of Germany’s most advanced humanoid robot developers and one of China’s most seasoned precision manufacturers.

The two sides will collaborate across humanoid robot design, key component development, application deployment, and ecosystem integration — blending HZF’s large-scale production strength with Neura’s deep expertise in cognitive control and embodied AI.

From Bearings to Brains: HZF’s Intelligent Transformation

HZF’s roots lie in automotive hub bearings and chassis systems, but in recent years, the company has undergone a quiet reinvention. Leveraging decades of mechanical and electronic know-how, it has moved aggressively into electromechanical integration, digital factories, and “AI + smart manufacturing.”

HZF has already established joint ventures and research centers dedicated to advanced motion systems and robotic actuators — including partnerships for ball and planetary roller screws, essential components in humanoid robot joints. One of its key projects, “Design and R&D of Linear Actuators for Humanoid Robots,” was even awarded funding from China’s National Postdoctoral Science Foundation.

At the same time, the company is building an annual production base for one million humanoid robot roller screws, while investing in Kepler Robotics and other startups to expand its footprint across the embodied-intelligence value chain.

For HZF, the alliance with Neura Robotics is a natural next step — merging Germany’s cognitive robotics capabilities with China’s industrial execution power.

Neura Robotics: Germany’s Cognitive Robot Powerhouse

Founded in 2019, Neura Robotics is Germany’s sole humanoid robot manufacturer and one of Europe’s fastest-growing robotics startups. In just six years, it has become a global leader in cognitive robotics — raising €120 million in funding and surpassing €1 billion in order volume from partners such as Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Omron.

Neura’s strength lies in vertical integration: its 600-person team from over 45 countries designs every critical subsystem in-house — from AI and control software to sensors and mechanical parts. Its product portfolio includes the world’s first cognitive robot MAiRA, the multifunctional assistant MiPA, and the humanoid robot 4NE1, together forming a versatile, modular platform for next-generation automation.

Why China — and Why Now

Neura’s decision to establish its China headquarters in Hangzhou reflects both strategy and timing. The city has emerged as a national hub for humanoid robotics, home to rising stars such as Unitree Robotics and Fourier Intelligence.

In partnership with the Hangzhou Xiaoshan Economic and Technological Development Zone, Neura has set up a wholly owned subsidiary with a registered capital of €45 million (≈¥400 million). Founder and CEO Davud Reger personally serves as its legal representative, underscoring the company’s global expansion ambitions.

Neura’s local network is equally formidable. Alongside German industrial names like Schaeffler, Volkswagen, ThyssenKrupp, and Schunk — and Chinese tech leaders including Alibaba Cloud, HZF, and AP M&E — Neura has signed multiple cooperation agreements to build a collaborative innovation ecosystem that spans R&D, market expansion, and supply-chain integration.

The Outlook: Convergence as Competitive Edge

The HZF-Neura partnership symbolizes a broader trend in the robotics industry — the convergence of global innovation and Chinese industrialization. As humanoid robots move from research to mass production, no single region holds all the cards: Europe leads in cognitive control and precision mechanics; China dominates in supply chains and manufacturing scale.

By combining these strengths, both sides aim to accelerate the commercialization of humanoid robotics, from actuator design to end-system deployment.

In the long run, such cross-border, cross-disciplinary alliances could redefine how “Made in China” and “Engineered in Germany” evolve — not as separate labels, but as complementary pillars of the global intelligent-manufacturing ecosystem.
