Shenzhen construction-robot startup whose wind-stabilised exterior-wall spraying robots paint high-rise facades for property developers such as China Jinmao.
Zanecon (Zhucheng Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd.) is a Shenzhen-based developer of construction robots for building facades. Registered on 16 October 2018 and located in the Junxiang U8 Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park in Xixiang, Bao'an District, the company describes itself as an integrated provider of construction-robot R&D, manufacturing and smart construction services, with the goal of replacing workers in high-risk work at height through standardised, quality-controlled processes.
Products. Zanecon's first commercial product is an intelligent exterior-wall spraying robot that replaces workers on suspended cradles when applying paint and coatings to high-rise facades. The company says the platform combines technology from drones, autonomous driving and robotics: a proprietary control algorithm compensates for wind so the working platform stays stable in force-4 winds, avoiding the seam defects that occur when two conventional cradles move out of sync; SLAM laser navigation and environmental perception build a 3D model of the wall for precise positioning; and a flexible follow-control algorithm smooths the spray arm's end trajectory for even coverage. The company also maintains a process knowledge base covering material feeding, mix ratios, defect detection and corner and flatness checks, and runs a multi-robot scheduling system. A second product line, an exterior-wall putty robot, was in development in 2023. Registry-based profiles describe two series of exterior-wall coating robots covering the process from substrate preparation to final spraying. Zanecon sells an end-to-end exterior wall service covering design, putty, auxiliary works, spraying and warranty, and plans to extend into insulation and other facade stages.
Deployments. Starting in October 2021 Zanecon robots were used on a China Jinmao real-estate project, where about 50% of high-altitude spraying was done robotically without workers on the facade; the company reports robotic spraying more than three times faster than manual work and an overall construction period about 30% shorter. By 2022 it had completed several hundred thousand square metres of robotic spraying for developers across China. In August 2022 Zhucheng Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., with China Jinmao Holdings Group as joint unit, was named for the exterior-wall spraying scenario in the national list of typical robot application scenarios in agriculture, construction, medical and mining published by the general offices of MIIT and three other national agencies.
Team. The founding team is described as serial entrepreneurs. The chairman has more than ten years in exterior-wall painting services. General manager and legal representative Zheng Duan has more than ten years of robotics R&D and team management and has worked on construction robots since 2015. The CTO previously led development of inertial-navigation AGVs, vision-guided forklift AGVs, 3D cameras, mobile manipulators and robot scheduling systems, and the chief scientist is a chair professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Changjiang Scholar.
Funding. Zanecon raised a strategic round in October 2020 from Lenovo Capital, Sequoia China Seed Fund and XVC, and in April 2023 a Series A of nearly RMB 100 million led by XVC with Lenovo Capital following; Index Capital advised. CB Insights lists about US$14.4 million raised in total.
