Yale Lift Truck Technologies is a brand of Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc. (NASDAQ: HY), headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. Yale traces its roots to the Yale and Towne Manufacturing Company, which produced its first forklift in the 1920s, making it one of the oldest and most established lift truck brands globally. The current Hyster-Yale Materials Handling entity was formed when NACCO Materials Handling Group was spun off as an independent public company in 2012. Yale's divisional Americas headquarters is in Greenville, North Carolina.
Yale develops, manufactures, and markets a comprehensive line of lift trucks including reach trucks, order pickers, very narrow aisle (VNA) trucks, rider pallet trucks, electric pallet jacks, pallet stackers, tow tractors, and counterbalanced electric and lithium-ion forklifts. The brand serves industries including e-commerce and retail fulfillment, food distribution, cold storage, beverage, healthcare and pharma distribution, third-party logistics, and manufacturing.
Yale has expanded significantly into warehouse automation. Its autonomous lift truck portfolio includes: the Automated Reach Truck — a dual-mode pantograph reach truck capable of autonomously storing and retrieving loads above 400 inches (approximately 10.2 meters) with a 3,500-pound capacity, infrastructure-free LIDAR-based navigation mapping structural features without guide wires, reflectors, or magnets, and autonomous charging; the Automated Tow Tractor — for long repetitive milk-run, parts-sequencing, and hauling tasks with a 15,000-pound tow capacity and manual override; and the Automated Counterbalanced Stacker — for horizontal and vertical transport up to 67 inches with 2,200–2,750-pound capacity and autonomous charging.
All robotic units support dual autonomous and manual operating modes. Yale also offers the Yale Reliant operator assistance system providing speed, steering, and braking interventions, and the Yale Vision telemetry platform for fleet-wide management. An extensive exclusive dealer network provides local service and support. As of ProMat 2023, Yale projected AMRs could represent up to 50% of its business in coming years.
