"Pick Anything. Place Anywhere."
Shanghai firm founded 2018 building RockyOne and RockyLight mobile manipulators for truck unloading and palletizing; raised over USD 100M.
XYZ Robotics is a Shanghai-based developer and manufacturer of mobile manipulation robots for case handling in warehouses, distribution centers and factories. The company was founded in June 2018 by chief executive Jiaji Zhou, with its headquarters at No. 4277 Yindu Road in Shanghai's Minhang District. It began with industrial 3D vision and teaching-free motion planning, and between 2019 and 2021 built robotic workstations for mixed-case palletizing, depalletizing, piece picking and bin picking. Its focus has since moved to self-driving robots that carry an arm to where cartons are, rather than fixed cells.
The current Rocky MMR line has two models. RockyOne, launched in 2023, drives into 20-, 40- and 45-foot standard and high-cube containers and trailers to unload or load loose cartons. Published specifications include a 30 kg maximum payload, 1,831 mm arm reach, a 1,400 x 1,060 mm footprint, 1,200 kg vehicle weight, case side lengths of 100 to 800 mm, omnidirectional movement at up to 0.9 m/s, IP54 protection and an operating range of -10 to 45 C; the company lists conformity with EN ISO 3691-4 and EN ISO 10218-2 among other standards. RockyLight, launched in 2024, is a lighter 650 kg unit for mixed-case palletizing and case picking, with a 25 kg payload, 1,800 mm reach, an arm base adjustable from 900 to 1,800 mm, travel at up to 2 m/s and pallets up to 1,200 x 1,200 x 2,200 mm. A variant named RockyOne SE stacks cartons onto pallets to customer-specified patterns. The robots work without advance SKU master data, using vision to handle mixed cartons.
Published deployments include automated inbound receiving at the BAUHAUS central warehouse in Krefeld, Germany, where RockyOne unloads cartons of up to 28 kg from containers and RockyOne SE palletizes them across a range of more than 10,000 SKUs. Other named customers are the Japanese home furnishings retailer NITORI, Marubeni Logistics (sportswear truck unloading), the Eurovo group (truck loading of food products) and Blondel Group in France. The company has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korean logistics company LX Pantos.
XYZ Robotics raised USD 2 million in seed funding in 2018, with Sinovation Ventures as an angel and pre-A investor, and reports more than USD 100 million raised in total by 2022. Its USD 40 million Series B+ round was led by Capital Today with Gaorong Capital, 5Y Capital and Source Code Capital participating. Outside China it runs offices in Suwanee, Georgia (USA), Neuss (Germany), Ellesmere Port (United Kingdom), Tokyo (Japan) and Osan (South Korea), and the German team handles planning, commissioning and after-sales support for European projects. Recognition listed by the company includes a Deloitte Rising Star award and a Vision Systems Design Innovators silver honoree placing.
