XSun is a French aerospace company headquartered at 1 route de la Croix Moriau in Guerande, Loire-Atlantique, that develops autonomous solar-electric unmanned aerial vehicles. Its work combines aircraft design, aerial navigation and radio and satellite communications. The company also lists offices in Gilching (Germany), Brisbane (Australia) and Cranfield (United Kingdom, as XSun-UK with Candy Group).
Its product, SolarXOne, is a 100% electric, solar-powered autonomous UAV that the company describes as the quietest on the market. Official figures are an endurance of up to 12 hours, a 4 kg payload, noise below 42 dB and readiness for take-off within 30 minutes. Missions promoted by XSun include topographical mapping, wildlife and environmental protection, agriculture, fire detection and search and rescue, defence and security, and maritime surveillance. Projects mentioned on its website include a prospection mission with TotalEnergies in the United States in 2024 and the CONDOR project for fire detection.
The team consists of about 25 PhD-level engineers from nine nationalities. XSun received Horizon 2020 funding (grant agreement No. 947373) in 2019 and says it was among the first ten companies in Europe supported by the European Innovation Council.
