Wuhan Fanzhou Harmonic Drive Co., Ltd. is a Wuhan-based component supplier that designs and manufactures harmonic reducers for humanoid robot joints. The company operates under Wuhan Fanzhou Precision Technology Co., Ltd., a parent group with close to three decades of experience in transmission-technology research and production for the automotive and industrial gearbox sectors. Fanzhou's dedicated harmonic-drive research and development effort began in June 2020, building on the parent company's long-standing expertise in precision gear manufacturing.
The company's harmonic reducer lineup spans six product series distinguished by flexspline geometry and torque rating. The FZCS, FZCD, and FZCSG series use a cup-shaped flexspline, while the FZHS, FZHD, and FZHSG series use a hat-shaped flexspline. Within each geometry, the standard versions (FZCS, FZHS) are offered alongside ultra-thin, lightweight variants (FZCD, FZHD) for space-constrained joint applications, and high-torque variants (FZCSG, FZHSG) that raise torque capacity by roughly 35 percent and 30 percent respectively over the corresponding standard model. All six series are produced across frame sizes 8 through 32 and are available with reduction ratios of 30, 50, 80, 100, and 120.
A distinguishing feature of Fanzhou's design is its F-tooth non-conjugate tooth profile, engineered to reduce the pitting area on the flexspline tooth surface, increase flexspline stiffness, and allow the gear set to carry higher torque than a conventional conjugate tooth form. Fanzhou also uses a precision net-shape forming process for the flexspline in place of the traditional hot-forging method used by many competitors, which the company says produces a more uniform flexspline wall thickness and, in turn, more consistent fatigue performance. Across the product line, Fanzhou specifies a transmission accuracy of better than one arc-minute and a rated fatigue life of up to 15,000 hours, positioning the reducers for the repeated, high-cycle joint motion required in humanoid robot limbs and other precision robotic actuators.
Fanzhou's parent company maintains a Hubei provincial enterprise technology center and a CNAS-accredited testing laboratory, resources the harmonic-drive team draws on for materials testing and product validation. The company is headquartered at No. 9 Xibeihu Third Road, Caidian District, Wuhan, Hubei Province, and exhibited its harmonic reducer lineup at the 2026 World Robot Conference in Beijing, Hall C, Booth C226, presenting the technology as a domestically developed option for a joint-reduction market that has long been dominated by established Japanese suppliers. As a relatively young entrant to the harmonic-drive segment, having begun dedicated R&D only in 2020, Fanzhou is building on its parent's nearly three-decade gearbox-manufacturing heritage, in-house precision forming capability, and in-house test infrastructure to scale harmonic reducer production for the fast-growing humanoid and collaborative robotics market.
