Company Overview

WITTENSTEIN North America is the U.S. market subsidiary of WITTENSTEIN SE, a German family-owned precision drive technology group founded in 1949 by Walter Wittenstein in Steinheim, Germany, and headquartered in Igersheim-Harthausen, Baden-Württemberg. The group employs approximately 2,853 people worldwide, achieves annual revenue of €526 million, and operates across more than 40 global locations with an equity ratio of 66%. The North America office is located at 1249 Humbracht Circle, Bartlett, Illinois, and serves the U.S., Canada, and Mexico markets.

WITTENSTEIN's core product portfolio encompasses servo gearboxes (backlash-free planetary, coaxial, right-angle, worm, hollow shaft), servo motors (rotary, linear, frameless), servo actuators (rotary, linear, hollow shaft), rack and pinion systems, servo drives, servo drive systems for AGVs, and software/IIoT digitalization tools including the cynapse smart services platform. The WITTENSTEIN alpha division—the largest within the group—manufactures the SP+ low-backlash planetary gearbox series and the Galaxie drive system, which WITTENSTEIN positions as a new operating principle in rotary mechatronic drives. The WITTENSTEIN cyber motor division specializes in high-power-density servo motors for ultra-high vacuum, radioactive, and high-temperature environments.

The group introduced its first low-backlash planetary gear units in 1983, a development that established it as a global precision drive leader. Served industries include industrial robotics, collaborative robots, AGV/AMR intralogistics, machine tools, packaging, medical technology, semiconductor manufacturing, aviation, automotive, and energy. The group's STXI Motion subsidiary (formerly Sensoray) and the Resense joint venture (with WIKA) extend its offering into servo drive electronics and miniaturized force/torque sensors for robotics.
