Wingtra AG makes fixed-wing vertical take-off and landing drones for professional surveying and mapping. Founded in 2016 in Zurich, Switzerland, as a spin-off from ETH Zurich by Elias Kleimann, Maximilian Boosfeld and Basil Weibel, the company is headquartered in Zurich with an additional office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Wingtra's current platform, the WingtraRAY, succeeded the WingtraOne GEN II and carries a 61-megapixel MAP61 sensor capable of surveying up to 550 hectares per flight at 120 meters altitude, with cruise speeds of 16 to 22 meters per second and a maximum flight time of 59 minutes. The drone accepts hot-swappable payloads, including RGB oblique and nadir cameras, LiDAR and multispectral sensors such as the MicaSense RedEdge, with payload changes in under 30 seconds and no tools required. A factory-installed parachute certified to FAA Category 3 for operations over people and EU C6 standards allows surveys across most US land without waivers, and the platform achieves repeatable accuracy to 3 centimeters.
Wingtra employs more than 130 people across five continents, with more than 30 in research and development, and works with over 70 equipment dealers and more than 1,500 organizations worldwide, including PCL Construction, Jellinbah Mining, BNI Coal, Westmoreland Mining and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
