Wildfire Robotics Inc. is a Calgary, Alberta-based company founded in 2020 that develops ground-based robotic systems for wildfire suppression and prescribed fire management. The company's primary product is the Robotic Fireline, a self-propelled, remotely controlled, modular system designed to establish a continuous line of water or suppressant along the edge of an active or controlled fire.
The Robotic Fireline is built in 20-foot modular sections, each serving a distinct technical or operational function. The system can be extended to reach up to 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) of continuous containment line. Key capabilities include independent spray nozzle control at every 10-foot interval with 240-degree nozzle inclination (8 o'clock to 4 o'clock range), a maximum flow rate of 200 gallons per minute, remote-controlled steering using live depth and infrared camera feeds optimized for low-visibility and night operations, forward and backward self-propulsion capable of navigating dense brush, climbing obstacles up to 4 feet in height, and ascending slopes up to 45 degrees. A remote ignition capability supports black-lining and prescribed burn facilitation by combining burn and containment in a single platform.
As of mid-2026 the robot has completed more than 715 hours of field testing across four generations of development, with 10 upcoming pilot tests planned. The system is transported via trailer with all equipment and power included, and future design variants are planned for helicopter-compatible pods and ATV-compact pods.
Wildfire Robotics works with wildfire agencies, land management organizations, indigenous communities, and private partners. Confirmed partners and collaborators include Alberta Wildfire, the Canadian National Research Council's IRAP program, Alberta Innovates, NorthX, CXL, StartupTNT, and the First Nations Emergency Services Society (FNESS). The company has conducted testing in partnership with FNESS on prescribed burns.
Funding sources include NRC-IRAP and Alberta Innovates programs. The company has 2 to 10 employees and is at an early commercialization stage with active field testing underway.
