Kitchener-Waterloo maker of a small swappable-battery electric tractor that drives autonomously along crop rows using GPS and AI row correction.
Werkr Tractors is a privately owned Canadian company in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, that builds a compact electric tractor for small-scale vegetable and market-garden farmers. The tractor can be driven manually or run in an autonomous mode, which the company presents as its main way to save growers time on planting and weeding.
The autonomy system combines GPS positioning with AI-based row correction to drive precisely along crop rows. Users can define row end points or drive the tractor manually once to record the path it should repeat. Autonomous seeding places seed at set spacing in straight rows, while AI row-following for autonomous weeding is under development.
The tractor is offered in two-wheel-drive form, rated at 16.5 kW (22 hp) peak and 9 kW continuous with two gear-reduced motors, and four-wheel-drive form, rated at 24 kW (32 hp) peak and 12.5 kW continuous with two gear-reduced and two direct-drive motors. It carries one to three individually swappable 5 kWh LFP batteries (15 kWh total, 51 V nominal), and a gasoline range extender is available. Published dimensions include 150 cm wheel spacing and 51 cm ground clearance; the front lift handles 226 kg and the rear lift 408 kg, and maximum speed is 21 km/h. Implements made for the tractor include a vacuum seeder, basket and finger weeders, S-tines, a crumbler, a flame weeder, a mower deck and pallet forks.
