UltiMaker is a Dutch manufacturer of fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printers headquartered in Utrecht, Netherlands. Martijn Elserman, Erik de Bruijn, and Siert Wijnia founded the company, then named Ultimaker, in 2011 at the ProtoSpace makerspace in Utrecht. In 2022 Ultimaker merged with the American 3D-printer maker MakerBot to form UltiMaker, now majority owned by Dutch investment firm NPM Capital (53.5 percent), with the remainder held by Stratasys (46.5 percent).
The printer lineup has three series: the S line (S3, S5, S6, S7, S8), dual-material desktop printers using 2.85 mm filament and supporting more than 300 materials; the Factor series (Factor 4, Factor 4 Plus), aimed at industrial and defense production with higher-speed operation; and the Method series, inherited from MakerBot, using 1.75 mm filament with an actively heated chamber for engineering plastics and composites. UltiMaker also develops Cura, an open-source slicing application, and Digital Factory, a cloud-based fleet-management platform.
Printers are used for prototyping, jigs, fixtures, and end-of-arm tooling in manufacturing, for field-repair parts in defense applications, and in classrooms and research labs; customers cited by the company include Ford, Tesla, Apple, Pfizer, and NASA. UltiMaker holds ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certification and manufactures in Europe.
