Ubicept, Inc. is a computer-vision software company headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, with a second office in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. It was founded in 2021 by CEO Sebastian Bauer and CTO Tristan Swedish, both researchers with ties to MIT and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, alongside founding advisors Andreas Velten, Mohit Gupta and Ramesh Raskar.
The company's core technology, Ubicept Photon Fusion, is a physics-based signal-processing method that models the photon statistics captured by an image sensor rather than relying on algorithmic or deep-learning enhancement alone, preserving image quality in low light, high dynamic range, fast motion and adverse weather. Its commercial product, the Ubicept Toolkit, ships with a GUI and API in two variants: a CMOS Integration package adding up to 10 dB of signal-to-noise gain and 20 dB of dynamic-range improvement to any CMOS camera with raw uncompressed output, and a SPAD Integration package supporting capture at 1,000 frames per second, sensitivity down to 0.05 lux, and up to 140 dB of dynamic range with SPAD sensors. Ubicept also offers a SPAD Evaluation Kit for hardware teams testing single-photon imaging.
Target applications include autonomous mobility, manufacturing inspection and robotic navigation. Ubicept has raised seed funding from investors including Alumni Ventures and TitletownTech.
