"The AMR That Can Pull Any Cart"
Portuguese maker of TUGBOT, a software-agnostic tugger AMR that pulls existing carts without adapters or facility changes
Tugbot is the autonomous mobile robot brand of Robosavvy S.A., based in Sintra, Portugal. The company began as RoboSavvy, an online robotics retailer founded in London by Limor Schweitzer serving the hobby, education and research markets. In 2013 it opened an R&D lab and manufacturing facility in Lisbon and moved its headquarters from the UK to Portugal. An autonomous robot built for National Geographic in 2016 led to the intralogistics robot concept, and TUGBOT was first deployed at the Portuguese postal operator CTT Correios in November 2017. In December 2022 the company changed its legal name from Robosavvy Lda. to Robosavvy S.A. and, by its own account, became part of an investment group that it does not name.
TUGBOT is a tugger AMR that engages existing carts, trolleys, dollies and other wheeled vehicles with four or more wheels, so a site can automate towing without adapters or changes to the facility. Navigation uses a combination of cameras, lasers, sensors and environment matching. The robot is software-agnostic and currently runs with four third-party navigation and fleet management platforms, leaving the choice to the end user.
TUGBOT 2, the second generation, measures 661 x 598 x 630 mm, weighs 90 kg in base configuration, pulls up to 600 kg, carries up to 250 kg on deck, reaches 2.0 m/s and runs up to eight hours, recharging wirelessly in about 25 minutes; the company also reports a 90% reduction in servicing time versus the first generation. TUGBOT has been deployed in more than 12 countries. Published case studies cover CTT Correios, Carrefour, Zalando, Bentley and SEAOS.
