"Empowering Future Embodied AI"
Buffalo, New York startup founded 2025, making thin-film tactile sensors, gripper fingertip modules and tactile data-collection gloves for robot learning.
TouchTronix Robotics Inc. is a US startup that develops tactile sensing hardware, software and training-data tools for dexterous robotic manipulation and human-robot interaction. The company was founded in 2025 and is located in the Baird Research Park, 1576 Sweet Home Road, Buffalo, New York. It began as a laboratory initiative to improve robot perception.
The founding team is Jun Liu, PhD (founder), Thomas Thundat, PhD (co-founder) and Simiao Niu, PhD (co-founder). Jun Liu is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University at Buffalo, where his group has published work on tactile electronic textiles for robot fingers that detect pressure and slip. The wider team includes Yixiang Gao, PhD (Chief Scientist, Robotics and AI) and Martin Casstevens (Senior Advisor, Business). The company reports an R&D team of more than 10 people, 3 patents, more than 20 customers and sales in more than 5 markets.
Hardware products are organized in three lines. The SensX series are thin-film tactile sensors with UART output in several standard formats: SensX 25 (19 x 13 mm, 5 x 5 pixels, up to 300 Hz), SensX 160 (65 x 25 mm, 20 x 8 pixels, 100 Hz), SensX 192 (36 x 24 mm, 16 x 12 pixels, 100 Hz) and SensX 187 (304 x 203 mm, 11 x 17 pixels, 100 Hz). Several SensX part numbers (for example SNX0505-SNS-01 and SNX2008-SNS-01) are sold through DigiKey. The TactX sensor modules are plug-and-play tactile fingertip modules for robot grippers in three standard sizes, with 100-300 Hz sampling and UART communication. The DigitX module is a tactile sensor for five-fingered humanoid hands with customizable pixel layout and dimensions, up to 300 Hz sampling and UART/SPI output. Sensor kits ship with a visualization application, a Python API, a ROS/ROS2 package, connectors and a module case for the customer's gripper.
For robot-learning data, the FusionX kit is a wearable data-collection system built around tactile sensing gloves with synchronized head- and chest-mounted cameras for first-person recording; a Pro version adds a portable edge-computing module for mobile collection. The company's Data Factory service converts captured interaction data (vision, touch, gaze and motion) into training datasets, and a sample multimodal dataset is published on Hugging Face. TouchTronix positions its tactile data for Vision-Tactile-Action (VTA) and Vision-Tactile-Language-Action (VTLA) models.
Target application areas named by the company are service robots, prosthetics, manufacturing, research and education, companion robots and healthcare. TouchTronix is a Bronze member of A3 (Association for Advancing Automation) and exhibited at IROS 2026 (booth 1110).
