Sunflower Labs develops autonomous drone-in-a-box security systems for commercial, industrial and residential sites. Founded in 2016 as a venture of the All Turtles product studio, the company operates from San Francisco, California, with its research and development center in Stallikon near Zurich, Switzerland. Evernote co-founder Phil Libin sits on the board.
The Beehive system combines the Bee, an autonomous drone, with the Hive, a docking and charging station that launches, lands and houses it. The Bee flies within a radius of about 600 m (1,800 ft) for up to 20 minutes per flight, roughly 15 of them on task, recharges in about twice the preceding flight time, and can log up to eight hours of flying per day in nearly all weather. Low-light cameras and an optional thermal payload feed onboard AI that detects and tracks people, vehicles and animals; the system does not perform facial recognition, keeps the aircraft inside a geocage matching the property boundary, and blurs footage beyond the property line. Monitoring integrations include Alarm.com, Alert360, LandSky and Becklar. In the United States it operates under an FAA Part 107 waiver and in Europe under an EASA SORA authorization.
Sunflower Labs holds ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification, ships to North America, Europe, Japan, Australia and Argentina, and quotes an operating cost of 4 to 7 US dollars per flight hour.
