Square Robot has developed two primary robotic platforms: the SR-1 and the SR-3. The SR-1 is a submersible, autonomous inspection robot that operates inside storage tanks filled with liquid product. It features a nitrogen-purged aluminum pressure vessel housing batteries and electronics, patent-protected autonomous navigation, HD cameras, lighting, and Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) for comprehensive corrosion mapping. The SR-1 delivers 10,000 ultrasonic testing data points per square foot using a 256-element phased array ultrasonic transducer.
The SR-3 is an advanced successor to the SR-1, incorporating all SR-1 capabilities plus additional versatility including compatibility with fixed, external, and internal floating roof tanks, and the ability to operate in tanks containing low- and high-flashpoint volatile products. The SR-3 is FM Class I Division II certified, enabling safe use in hazardous environments with flammable vapors. Both robots enter via a side manway requiring a minimum 22.75-inch inner diameter.
Square Robot serves the petrochemical, oil and gas, refining, and terminal storage industries globally, helping clients achieve regulatory compliance while reducing inspection downtime, eliminating confined space fatalities, and lowering overall inspection costs. The company has a significant commercial presence in Texas, with a Houston office launched in 2019, complementing its Massachusetts headquarters.
Funding: Square Robot has raised over $42 million in total financing. Notable investors include Marathon Petroleum, Crosstown Capital, Incubatenergy Network, and MassRobotics. A Series B tranche of $13.5 million was completed in December 2025, and the company raised an additional $7.5 million in early 2026. The company has approximately 40–60 employees.
