Sphaira is a healthcare robotics startup founded in 2020 with dual headquarters in Berlin, Germany (Sphaira Medical GmbH, Bismarckstr. 10-12, 10625 Berlin, registered at Amtsgericht Charlottenburg, HRB 220372) and Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA (Sphaira Inc., One Broadway). The company develops Physical AI systems for what it calls Autonomous Intramobility — the automated indoor movement of patients and goods within large-scale built environments such as hospitals and airports.
Sphaira's flagship platform is built around the MOBY autonomous vehicle system: a fleet of hospital-optimized wheeled vehicles capable of transporting non-bedridden patients through hospital corridors without human assistance. MOBY A1 vehicles are equipped with cameras, radars, and LiDAR sensors arranged for 360-degree redundant coverage, powered by Nvidia GPU computing and neural networks. The Sphaira OS platform uses human motion trajectory prediction algorithms specifically designed for low-speed, high-complexity indoor environments — a substantially different problem from outdoor autonomous vehicles. Edge cases are handled via teleguidance (remote operator assistance), with the system continuously learning to reduce intervention frequency over time.
The platform is structured in three layers: hardware (a proprietary H-frame chassis optimized for hospital corridor dimensions), an application layer for scheduling and logistics management, and an API for integration with hospital information systems, elevators, and automatic door systems.
Sphaira is conducting autonomous patient transport pilots with Charité Berlin (Europe's largest university hospital), Mayo Clinic (USA), and Universitätsklinikum Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH), a 2,600-bed German hospital. The company is backed by Endless Frontier Labs and is an NVIDIA Inception member. Managing Director is Janis Münch. In May 2026, Sphaira announced a partnership with Rovex to advance hospital deployments.
