The Small UAV Coalition is a Washington, DC-based trade association formed in 2014 to advocate for laws and regulations that allow commercial, civil, and philanthropic use of small unmanned aerial vehicles in the United States and abroad. Its founding members included Amazon Prime Air, Google[x]'s Project Wing, DJI, 3DR, Airware, Aerialtronics, GoPro, and Parrot, bringing together large technology companies and specialized drone manufacturers under one advocacy group. Michael Drobac serves as executive director.
The coalition engages federal agencies including the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, submitting comments and testimony on drone registration, beyond-visual-line-of-sight operating rules, and airspace access. Current policy priorities include expanding beyond-visual-line-of-sight flight authority, building low-altitude airspace management infrastructure, securing radio spectrum for UAS operations, and supporting delivery and humanitarian drone applications.
The Small UAV Coalition represents hardware manufacturers, software developers, and drone service operators interested in commercial applications such as aerial delivery, imaging, inspection, and precision agriculture, and publishes policy positions and comment submissions through its website.
