New Jersey drone-software firm launched 2020; its videogrammetry and auto-flight app turn drone video into 3D scenes for 1,000+ public safety agencies.
SkyeBrowse, Inc. is a US software company that turns ordinary video from drones, phones and 360-degree cameras into measurable 3D models, orthomosaics and floor plans. Its core method, which the company calls videogrammetry, builds the model from thousands of video frames rather than from a planned set of still photographs, so the drone does not need to stop for each image. The technology began in 2016 as a Rutgers University research project, informally called The Drone Project, run by then-student Bobby Ouyang with Dr. Peter Jin of the Rutgers Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation. Ouyang is co-founder and chief executive and Jin is chief technology officer. The product launched commercially in January 2020, and the company holds a patent on the videogrammetry process.
The workflow has two parts. The SkyeBrowse Flight App runs on DJI and Autel aircraft and DJI remote controllers: in SkyeBrowse mode the pilot positions the drone above the subject and the app flies an automated orbit lasting about 90 seconds, or about two minutes at night; in WideBrowse mode it flies a lawnmower grid over larger areas, with optional cross-grid and side-scan passes, typically within five minutes. A March 2026 release added support for the DJI Mini 4 Pro, Matrice 4E and 4T and Matrice 400. Video from any other drone or camera can be processed through Universal Upload. The cloud platform then produces the model, with distance, area, angle, volume, slope and line-of-sight tools, AI floor and site plans, flythrough video, model merging of interior and exterior scans, a Crowd Counter tool and an enterprise VR viewer. Exports include LAZ, GLB, GeoTIFF and CAD.
Pricing is per model. Commercial and Pro plans process at 8K with stated 0.5 inch accuracy; the Public Safety and Enterprise tier processes at 16K with stated 0.1 inch accuracy, CJIS-compliant hosting on AWS in Northern Virginia and Ohio, chain-of-custody records and expert-witness support.
The product was built for accident reconstruction and law enforcement remains its main market. The company says more than 1,000 public safety agencies use it, naming the National Transportation Safety Board, the Department of Homeland Security, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, the California Department of Justice, DFW Airport Police, the Utah State Fire Marshal's Office and the Middletown Police Department. Secondary uses include construction progress and stockpile measurement, roof and facade inspection, insurance claims and real estate. Announced partnerships include Draganfly (2023), FlytBase and RSET (2024) and the Public Safety UAS Institute, which teaches SkyeBrowse in its courses. The company raised a USD 2.3 million seed round in February 2022, when it had 24 staff, and lists team members in New Jersey, California and Texas.
