San Francisco Google X spinoff building powered exoskeleton wearables (movewear) that reduce walking exertion, including MO/GO powered pants with Arc'teryx.
Skip is a San Francisco, California-based wearable robotics company that spun out of Alphabet's X (formerly Google X) in January 2023. The company was founded by a team that spent years at X developing exoskeleton technology before launching independently to commercialize it. Skip defines a new consumer product category it calls movewear—clothing with integrated powered exoskeleton technology designed to support natural human movement.
Skip's flagship product is MO/GO, developed in partnership with outdoor apparel company Arc'teryx and described as the world's first pair of powered pants. MO/GO uses embedded actuators and sensors to provide approximately 40% energy assistance to the quadriceps and hamstrings during walking, while simultaneously offloading stress from the knees. The product is designed as an analogue to an e-bike for walking—it does not replace human locomotion but reduces the physical cost of movement. MO/GO targets users experiencing fatigue, aging-related mobility decline, or joint discomfort, and was positioned as an outdoor and everyday consumer product rather than a medical device.
The partnership with Arc'teryx was announced in July 2024, with reservations opening on July 24, 2024 and shipments planned for late 2025. Skip's CEO is Kathryn Zealand, and co-founders include Anna Roumiantseva. The company's technical foundation draws from more than a decade of research at X into how soft, lightweight wearable robotics can integrate into daily activities.
Skip raised venture funding after spinning out of X in 2023. The company is headquartered in San Francisco and operates as a consumer robotics and exoskeleton hardware manufacturer. Unlike industrial exoskeletons designed for heavy labor applications, Skip's products target broader consumer demographics interested in outdoor activity, aging-in-place mobility, and physical performance enhancement.
