Savant Automation, Inc. is a US manufacturer of automatic guided vehicles (AGVs) and complete AGV systems, operating from manufacturing, office and demonstration space in the Grand Rapids area of Michigan (registered address in Walker, MI). The company states that it was formerly part of Siemens Dematic, and the Mobile Robot Directory traces its AGV group back through Siemens Dematic, Rapistan and Mannesmann Demag to the 1954 invention of the AGV.
Savant builds its vehicles and develops its control technology in-house in the United States. The vehicle range covers automatic guided carts, unit load carriers, tow units, fork units and automatic truck loading units. Low-profile models DC-10i, DC-20i, DC-24i and DC-25i carry 771 kg to 11,340 kg; tall-profile DFL-L, DFL and DFL-H carry 2,268 kg to 11,340 kg. All run at up to 1 m/s with inertial localization, up to 8 hours of continuous operation and 6% gradeability. A Universal Use Chassis supports custom load decks. The company cites capacities up to 10,000 lb for fork-based vehicles and 50,000 lb for heavy-duty vehicles.
Navigation uses Savant's Virtual Path system, supported by iQ-CAN vehicle electronics and a software set comprising System Designer, System Emulator, System Demonstrator and System Control. Applications include cart pick-and-deliver, indexing and continuous assembly lines, tunnel-under auto-hitch towing, powered roller deck and tote handling, floor lift and lift/lower decks, AS/RS interfaces, indoor and outdoor operation with ramps, and hospital transport of meals, linen, trash and supply carts using existing elevators.
Savant sells directly to end users and through third-party integrators, and offers 24/7 parts and service, refurbishment, upgrades and training.
