"We are redefining brain therapies with microrobotics"
Paris medtech startup Robeaute develops rice-sized microrobots that navigate brain tissue to diagnose and treat neurological disease; $28M Series A in 2025.
Robeaute is a French medical device company founded in 2017 in Paris that is developing a microrobotic platform for the brain, which it describes as the first of its kind. The platform is organized around three functions, Treat, Diagnose and Monitor, and is intended to give neurosurgeons access to deep brain structures through miniature robots instead of open surgery. The microrobot, shown under the name dot, is described as rice-sized. Its design draws on bacterial locomotion at small scales, a miniaturized heartbeat-like actuation to power the motor, and structural ideas taken from rocket design.
The company was co-founded by CEO Bertrand Duplat, who has more than 30 years in robotics and 3D technologies, holds about 40 patents and previously led Virtools to its acquisition by Dassault Systemes, and COO Joana Cartocci. Its first office was at AP-HP Hotel-Dieu in Paris. In 2018 it formed a medical and scientific advisory board of more than 50 neurosurgeons, and in 2020 it completed the first end-to-end fabrication and integration of the miniature core building blocks of its machines. In 2024 it was a founding member of the Brain Gardeners' Club, a network of neurosurgery and technology leaders. The company reports more than 40 engineers, operators and scientists.
Robeaute raised a USD 3.2M seed round in 2022 led by APEX Ventures and a USD 28M Series A in 2025 led by Plural, Cherry Ventures, Kindred Ventures and Brainlab; it states more than EUR 40M in combined equity and non-dilutive funding since inception, with support from the European Innovation Council, Bpifrance, Region Ile-de-France and EIT Health. Other listed investors include LocalGlobe, Think.Health and Apex Health. In 2026 it opened a US office, Robeaute Inc, in San Francisco and reported preclinical results and ongoing engagement with the FDA and European regulators ahead of first-in-human studies. The device has not received FDA clearance or CE marking and is not approved for clinical use or commercial sale.
