North America's founding robotics trade association, now part of A3 - Association for Advancing Automation.
The Robotic Industries Association (RIA) was founded in 1974 as the only trade group in North America organized specifically to serve the robotics industry. Originally established as the Robot Institute of America under SME, RIA became independent in 1982 and relocated to Ann Arbor, Michigan by 1986. Its members include robot manufacturers, system integrators, component suppliers, research institutions, and consulting firms.
RIA developed and maintained key robot safety standards including R15.06 and operated robotics.org as an industry resource. In April 2021, RIA merged with AIA, MCMA, and A3 Mexico to form the Association for Advancing Automation (A3).
