Arizona hybrid ground-and-aerial robotics company founded 2021 from University of Arizona research; builds the HMR inspection robot for confined spaces.
Revolute Robotics is a privately held robotics company in Arizona that grew out of PhD research on hybrid ground-and-aerial mobility beginning in 2017 at the University of Arizona, with the company formally established in 2021.
Its product, the Hybrid Mobility Robot (HMR), houses a drone inside a spherical exoskeleton about 20 inches across that switches between flight and ground rolling within a single unit. Because rolling does not expend energy fighting gravity, the HMR operates more than five times longer than a comparable aircraft running on rotors alone, sustaining over an hour of operation while carrying interior payloads such as LiDAR, thermal imaging, gas detection and ultrasonic sensors for non-destructive testing. The robot is built for inspection inside confined spaces such as oil storage tanks, mine shafts and utility corridors, for automated security patrol, and for beyond-visual-line-of-sight reconnaissance.
The company has received funding from the National Science Foundation, Techstars in partnership with Stanley Black & Decker, the US Army's DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory, and MassChallenge, and has demonstrated the HMR for the National Security Innovation Network and US Special Operations Command.
Primary type & automation activities this supplier delivers:
A 20-inch spherical robot that switches between aerial flight and ground rolling, designed for confined-space inspection, security patrol, and military reconnaissance.
