R+W Coupling Technology, operating in North America as R+W America, L.P., is the US subsidiary of R+W Antriebselemente GmbH, a German coupling manufacturer founded in 1990 and based in Wörth am Main. R+W America was established in 2001 and is based in West Chicago, Illinois. Both companies are part of the Poppe + Potthoff group, which also supplies OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers in the automotive and aerospace sectors.
The company supplies mechanical drive components that transmit torque between rotating shafts. Its precision coupling line covers metal bellows and miniature bellows couplings, elastomer couplings, torque limiters, servo disc-pack couplings, and connecting line shafts, rated from about 0.05 Nm up to 25,000 Nm. Its industrial coupling line covers safety couplings, disc-pack couplings, flexible gear couplings, and larger metal bellows couplings rated from 200 Nm up to 2,080,000 Nm. The components are built for minimal backlash and low wear, and serve robotics, machine tools, packaging and printing equipment, medical devices, wind turbines, marine and rail drivetrains, and steel-mill machinery.
The R+W group employs more than 230 people worldwide, with subsidiaries in the United States, China, Italy, and Slovakia, a sales office in Singapore, and dealers in more than 60 countries. R+W America also provides machining and assembly services for coupling components sold into North American drive systems.
