Q-Bot Limited is a London-based company that insulates the underside of suspended timber and suspended concrete ground floors using small robots, so that homes can be insulated without lifting floors or moving residents out. It is based at Hewlett House, Havelock Terrace, in Battersea, and works for homeowners, social and private landlords, contractors and park-home owners across the UK; its own figures say it has treated more than 5,500 homes, usually completing an installation in one to two days. In June 2026 it marked 13 years of operation.
The process begins with a survey, with a report within 24 hours, in which a floorboard is lifted or a small hatch is cut to check void height, moisture, layout, pipework and the condition of the boards. For installation in the UK the robot normally enters the underfloor void through an access hatch created in the floor; in other markets access is usually through the external wall. Inside the void the robot sprays layers of accredited closed-cell expanding foam onto the underside of the floorboards, typically to a thickness of about 12 cm, filling gaps to cut draughts and heat loss, and the thickness is monitored during the work. Q-Bot says it has used BASF foam throughout its history. Each job ends with quality verification and a declaration of conformity, and eligible installations carry an insurance-backed 25-year guarantee.
Alongside the robots, Q-Bot has built SWARM, a digital retrofit-compliance platform for housing associations, contractors and local authorities. SWARM handles property surveys and AI-assisted suitability scoring, 3D floor modelling, guided installation workflows with photo capture, GPS tagging and real-time validation, PAS 2035 quality assurance and sign-off for retrofit coordinators, ECO forms, fault tracking, and automated reporting to the TrustMark Data Warehouse with a time-stamped Golden Thread evidence ledger. Q-Bot says SWARM has managed more than 5,500 installations and supports government schemes such as the Warm Homes Social Housing Fund and Warm Homes Local Grants.
The company is TrustMark registered and works to PAS 2035, with Kiwa and the Installation Assurance Authority involved in accreditation and guarantees; it reports a net promoter score of 93.8 from more than 100 verified resident surveys in 2026. Its awards include the Queen's Award for Enterprise for Innovation in 2020, an Ashden Award for sustainable buildings and a CIBSE Building Performance Award in 2018, a Housing Digital Award with Flagship Group in 2022, and in 2015 an IEEE innovation award, a Green Apple Award and runner-up in Saint-Gobain's Nova innovation competition. In June 2026 it announced a strategic partnership with Top Isol to bring its robotic insulation technology to France, and in 2026 homeowners in Scotland became able to access public funding for Q-Bot installations. David Lawlor, a carpenter by training with a decade at the company, leads delivery, accreditation, training and technical support as chief operating officer.
