Prosper Robotics Ltd is a UK robotics startup incorporated in England in February 2021 (Companies House no. 13180130) and described in press coverage as a London-based company. It was founded by CEO Shariq Hashme, a former early employee of Scale AI who also worked briefly at OpenAI in 2017. Its hardware development has been carried out partly at a field lab in Shenzhen, China, and coverage in 2023-2024 put the team at roughly eight people plus a group of remote robot pilots.
The company is developing Alfie, a general-purpose household robot. Alfie is a wheeled mobile manipulator with a torso that raises and lowers, two arms with gripper hands and a sensor head. Visitors in 2023 reported a height of about 170 cm and a weight of over 100 kg, with features such as a retracting power cord, two emergency-stop buttons and a set of interchangeable tools. Demonstrated tasks include wiping surfaces, loading a dishwasher, taking out rubbish, making beds and handling laundry, with food preparation on the roadmap.
Prosper's operating model combines autonomy with remote human teleoperation: MIT Technology Review reported in December 2024 that early units would rely on remote pilots for most tasks, with AI expected to handle around 20 percent at first, and the company has advertised Robot Pilot roles in London. Reported pricing targets have ranged from roughly GBP 5,000-10,000 in 2023 to USD 10,000-15,000 in 2024, alongside a possible subscription of about GBP 400 per month; none had been confirmed as a retail price, and Alfie had not shipped commercially at the time of these reports. Press reports describe the company as largely funded by its founder, with angel backing from technology founders including Alexandr Wang, Simon Last and Ben Mann.
