Company Overview

Picogrid, Inc. is a U.S. defense technology company in El Segundo, California. It builds software and hardware that connect sensors, uncrewed platforms and effectors from different vendors into one command-and-control picture. Zane Mountcastle (CEO) and Martin Slosarik (co-founder and head of growth) founded it in 2020. In 2025 it opened a 25,000-square-foot facility in El Segundo that tripled its production capacity, and it has announced plans for a second site in Oklahoma.

The main product is Legion, which Picogrid describes as a universal translator between systems that could not previously exchange data. The core of Legion is hand-written. Each new device gets its own integration module, much like a device driver, and Picogrid now has AI tools write most of these modules. The company says this cut a typical integration from a month or more to under a day, and it reported nearly 100 completed integrations by early 2026. Legion feeds tactical tools including ATAK, Palantir's Maven Smart System and Anduril's Lattice. It also connects to the Army's FAAD-C2 and to Northrop Grumman's AiON counter-drone command system. Orion is the company's C2 application.

For field units, Picogrid makes Expeditionary C2 Nodes. Helios is a portable node that provides hardware infrastructure and edge computing. Portal is a backpack-sized edge compute and networking node for dismounted troops. Together they let legacy radars, RF sensors, acoustic arrays, cameras, drones, jammers and weapons share data with modern networks, sometimes replacing several older interface boxes with one unit.

Counter-UAS and base defense are Picogrid's biggest markets. At the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, it integrated five sensors from five vendors (active radar, passive radar and acoustic) for the 1st Cavalry Division. The combined drone-detection layer fed FAAD-C2, and the project took about four weeks. In early 2026 it won a $9.3 million SBIR Phase III contract from the Air Force, its largest at the time, to connect counter-drone systems and other defenses at selected air bases. In April 2026 the XVIII Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg awarded Picogrid an integration contract after the Scarlet Dragon exercise. In that exercise, CX2 RF sensors, radars and acoustic sensors were fused into Maven to complete a sensor-to-shooter counter-drone chain. In September 2026 the company said it had connected 20 defense systems for Army counter-drone operations. In July 2026 it was selected under NATO's Decision Superiority challenge to link member nations' tactical-edge sensors into NATO's Maven Smart System.

Picogrid also markets its products for satellite operations, SIGINT interoperability, wildfire detection and human-machine teaming. The company says it works with the U.S. Army, Air Force and Space Force, has worked in Ukraine, and has systems deployed with allied forces in the Middle East. Its partner network includes Skydio, Northrop Grumman, Echodyne, CHAOS Industries, CX2, Neros and Palantir.

Picogrid raised a $12 million seed round in March 2024, led by Initialized Capital. Starburst Ventures, Credo Ventures, Giant Step Capital, Domino Ventures and Alumni Ventures also took part. In June 2026 it raised a $45 million Series A led by Bessemer Venture Partners, with Washington Harbour Partners and GSBackers joining existing investors. Mountcastle says the company has been cash-flow positive and has earned about two dollars of revenue for every dollar raised.
