Company Overview

PIAP Space Sp. z o.o. is a Polish space robotics company registered in February 2017 as a daughter company of Lukasiewicz Research Network – Industrial Research Institute for Automation and Measurements (Lukasiewicz–PIAP), itself a legacy of the Polish Institute of Automation and Measurements (Przemyslowy Instytut Automatyki i Pomiarow). The company's founding team grew from PIAP Institute's special projects group, which won its first European Space Agency (ESA) contract in 2013. Today PIAP Space is jointly owned by the Industrial Development Agency (ARP) and Lukasiewicz–PIAP, and employs approximately 45 engineers and specialists.

The company focuses on space robotics technologies for On-Orbit Servicing (OOS), Active Debris Removal (ADR), and planetary exploration. Its core product lines encompass Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) — including integration adapters, vibration test adapters, clamp bands, and satellite integration stands — and orbital robotic subsystems such as grippers, multi-axis Force/Torque (FTS) sensors, and multi-articulated robotic arms.

Key completed and ongoing projects include: TITAN (ESA contract — multi-articulated robotic arm prototype for satellite deorbiting and servicing, reaching TRL 6 in Q1 2024); EROSS IOD (European Robotic Orbital Support Services In Orbit Demonstrator, started 2023, focused on on-orbit satellite servicing); ORBITA (modular gripper family for orbital and planetary applications); MANUS (prototype manipulator for ESA's ARGONAUT lunar lander mission); and ATHENA MGSE (ground support hardware for ESA's X-ray telescope mission, supplied through Thales Alenia Space Poland). The company also delivered a European Force and Torque Sensor for ESA robotic missions and participated in ESA's PERASPERA space robotics cluster and the PRO-ACT multi-robot lunar construction project.

In the planetary robotics domain, PIAP Space offers field test organisation, assembly and integration of mobile robot subsystems (MAIT), and leverages PIAP Institute's extensive heritage in EOD and special-purpose ground robots. The company is a member of ESA's Business Incubation Centre Poland ecosystem and is active in the Polish space sector development roadmap.
