Italian vehicle maker founded 1884; robotics subsidiary Piaggio Fast Forward makes Gita and Kilo follow-me cargo robots for B2B and consumer use.
Piaggio Group (Piaggio & C. S.p.A.) was founded in 1884 by Rinaldo Piaggio in Sestri Ponente, Genoa, initially manufacturing naval furnishings before diversifying into locomotives, aircraft, and ultimately motor vehicles. The company is headquartered at Via Rinaldo Piaggio 25, 56025 Pontedera (Pisa), Italy. As of 2025, Piaggio Group employs approximately 5,502 people and reported consolidated net sales of approximately 1,502 million euros. Its brands include Vespa, Piaggio, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, Gilera, and Derbi.
In 2015, Piaggio Group founded Piaggio Fast Forward (PFF), a Boston-based robotics subsidiary focused on autonomous follow-me cargo robots for environments where humans and robots interact in dynamically changing settings. PFF employs approximately 62 people and is headquartered at 52 Roland St, Boston, Massachusetts.
PFF's commercial robot portfolio includes: the Gita, a spherical follow-me cargo carrier with 20 kg payload and 10 km/h top speed; the Gitamini, a compact follow-me carrier holding up to 9 kg for consumer and light commercial use; and the Kilo, introduced in 2024, a flat-bed robotic platform with 130 kg payload fitted with 4D radar imaging, multiple sensors, and the ability to follow an operator, move autonomously, or execute up to 100 stored paths. The Kilo is being integrated into Moto Guzzi production lines to assist assembly operators.
All PFF robots use Visual SLAM for navigation and can operate both indoors and outdoors. Originally targeted at consumers, PFF has pivoted to B2B markets including hospitality, manufacturing, indoor agriculture, construction, and logistics. The Gita and Gitamini have also appeared in limited-edition collaborations, including the Grogu-themed gitamini released in partnership with Lucasfilm.
Piaggio Group is publicly listed on the Borsa Italiana (Milan Stock Exchange).
