PI (Physik Instrumente) USA L.P. is the North American subsidiary of Germany's PI Group, founded in 1970 and headquartered at 440 Hartford Turnpike, Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. The German parent, a family-owned company, has signed an agreement to be acquired by HOERBIGER, a diversified technology group, with the transaction expected to close in 2026.
PI designs and manufactures precision motion and automation systems including six-axis hexapod positioners, piezoelectric actuators and motors, nanopositioning stages, air bearing stages, motorized linear and rotary stages, fast steering mirrors and motion controllers, alongside subsidiaries ACS Motion Control and PI miCos. These systems serve photonics and silicon photonics, semiconductor manufacturing, laser processing, life sciences and microscopy, aerospace, and precision metrology applications.
PI Group employs more than 1,900 people worldwide. Its US operation maintains ITAR-registered facilities in Shrewsbury and provides onshore custom design and engineering services for North American customers.
