Company Overview

Oxa (formerly Oxbotica) is a UK autonomous-vehicle software company, founded in 2014 by Oxford University professors Paul Newman and Ingmar Posner and headquartered in Oxford, England. The company spun out of Oxford's Mobile Robotics Group following the RobotCar UK project, which produced one of the first autonomous vehicles to drive on UK roads. Oxa develops a full-stack, end-to-end Universal Autonomy software platform that is vehicle- and platform-agnostic and does not depend on external infrastructure such as GPS, enabling deployment in any environment and on any terrain, including underground sites, natural canyons, forests and signal-degraded urban canyons.

Its product suite is built around three offerings: Oxa Driver, the flagship autonomy system that enables self-driving of any vehicle in any industrial environment; Oxa Hub, which connects autonomous vehicles to fleet and data-management platforms; and Oxa MetaDriver, a suite of generative-AI and digital-twin tools that validate and verify autonomy systems by recreating rare and unusual scenarios in simulation. MetaDriver discovers edge cases at an average of 1,000 times faster than real-world driving and up to 35,000 times faster in some situations, training and validating algorithms roughly 30x faster than traditional brute-force mileage accumulation. The company rebranded from Oxbotica to Oxa in 2023 as part of an expansion into North America and Europe, and in 2024 deployed its commercial self-driving software for the first time in passenger AV shuttles in Florida. Oxa works through vehicle OEM partnerships and has collaborated with Google Cloud to accelerate adoption. Oxa positions itself as the first and only British company exporting deployment-ready self-driving vehicle software into the global market, serving industrial, logistics and passenger-mobility applications.
